Rock bands mesmerized audiences on Monday on the third and final day of the Chhattisgarh youth festival with a dazzling marriage of traditional and modern musical instruments.
Kondagaon district was adjudged the best in the 15-40 years category while Dhamtari and Korea districts were awarded with first and second runner-up respectively.
The rock band from Dhamtari gave a thrilling performance by playing 51 traditional musical instruments, earning thunderous applause. The use of musical instruments like tabla and chikara with harmonium, labada and mridang was showcased an example of fusion between modernity and tradition.
According to young Mahasamund performer Javed Qureshi, this was done to catch the attention of the young. The traditional instruments can survive only if the young are attached to the folk tradition, he said.
