In a remarkable tale of unwavering determination and resilience, a 56-year-old avid runner, defied all odds to achieve his dream of conquering the Ladakh Marathon, despite facing a life-threatening health scare during his journey.

A banker by profession, Suman Prasad's journey to the Ladakh Marathon was a testament to his unyielding spirit. Having taken up running just last year, he set his sights on completing one of India's most challenging marathons, a dream that seemed impossible to achieve for most at his age.

His journey to Ladakh began with the successful completion of the Delhi Half Marathon (21 Kms), Kolkata Marathon (25 Kms) and the gruelling Mumbai Marathon (42 Kms), demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his newfound passion.

To secure his spot in the Ladakh Marathon, Suman registered himself eagerly for the event that held a special place in his heart. However, as he embarked on his training in the treacherous terrain of Patratu Valley at Jhakrhand and late sat out for Ladakh, chilly wind took a toll on his health. He fell seriously ill and was unable to walk, with his low oxygen level. His condition deteriorated and he was admitted to hospital. Doctors delivered a grim prognosis, urging him to abandon his dream for the sake of his life, due to posing threat to heart attack. He sought multiple medical opinions, all echoing the same dire warning.

Sharing his experience, he said, “My passion and love for the realization of my dream to complete the goal of Marathon in Ladakh kept haunting me. I refused to give up. Mustered the courage once again and thought of going up-hill to this goal. As I walked a few steps, I realized that my oxygen level has increased; this gave me courage to continue my challenge.

Prasad's perseverance was not his sole driving force. The arrival of his nephew, who had rushed to Ladakh upon learning of his uncle's dire health, injected him with an additional burst of energy. Suman's determination surged and he quickened his pace. In a breathtaking display of sheer willpower, Suman Prasad crossed the finish line, completing the Ladakh Marathon in the set timeline. Overwhelmed with emotion, he broke into tears of joy, realizing his dream against all odds.

This extraordinary tale of courage serves as an inspiration to all, a testament to the human spirit's indomitable strength. Suman Prasad's journey reminds us that dreams can be achieved through unwavering determination and the refusal to give in to adversity.
