Programme on World Schizophrenia Day organised at BGH

Friday, 26 May 2023 | PNS | Bokaro

World Schizophrenia Awareness Day is commemorated every May 24. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of the mental illness that affects over 20 million people worldwide.  Day is celebrated worldwide as "World Schizophrenia Day" to create awareness in the society about this disease for proper care of schizophrenia patients. In the same episode, a programme was organized by the Department of Psychiatry on May 24 in the CMO Conference Hall of Bokaro General Hospital. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that can lead to severe mental and cognitive disability if not treated properly. Along with medicines, family and social support is also needed for the treatment of such patients. One should help such patients and encourage them to stay connected with society. In this programme the participants were made aware about the role of the society towards such patients and all were requested to publicize this message in the society at large.

In this programme, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Hembram (Psychiatrist) gave a detailed presentation and Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Additional CMO, (Psychiatry Department) was the moderator. In this programme, CMO incharge Dr. B.B. Karunamoy, Dr. Shravan Kumar, Dr. A.K. Mandal, Dr. Anand Kumar, Dr. Subodh Kumar (Clinical Psychologist) and other senior doctors were present.
