Primary teachers to skip poll duty if demands not met

Thursday, 31 August 2023 | PNS | NUAPADA

Working presidents of State Primary Teachers (Ex-Cadre) Mahasangha Alekh Sahu and Jayanti Lal Sahu in a Press release at Khariar have said the association would intensify its protest and resort to noncooperation in next general elections if their demands are not met before September 5.

Teachers have been protesting in Lower PMG for last one month to press their 8-point charter of demands including abolition of deputation and ex-cadre system. The government has formed a ministerial level committee but even after two meetings, no resolution could be reached due to lack of interest within the Government.

"When six States of the country are implementing old pension provision and the primary teachers in 23 States are being paid at the central rate, why Odisha would not follow the same," asked Sahu.  "If the demands of the primary teachers are not met, we will intensify our movement in the capital and will not do election duty," added Sahu. Association cice president Kishore Behera was also present.
