The humid weather after the intense heat wave in June has created an unprecedented demand for electricity in Uttar Pradesh. At the peak of the heat wave the demand for power had crossed 27,000 megawatt and now it is over 28,000 MW. If the heat wave persists, the demand for electricity is likely to increase further.
Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has claimed that despite intense humidity in the state, the power utility has maintained 18 hours’ supply in rural areas and 24 hours’ supply in big cities and district headquarters.
The rural areas in Bundelkhand are getting 20 hours of power supply while nagar panchayat towns and tehsil headquarters are getting 21.30 hours of power supply per day.
UP Power Corporation Limited Chairman M Devraj said here on Monday that in June, the peak demand was 27,610 MW and in July the demand was 27,622 MW. He said the power utility had ensured the supply of electricity as per the demand. He said the demand on Sunday/Monday was 28,043 MW, and the UPPCL met it by procuring power from different sources.
He asked the UPPCL officers to be vigilant to prevent accidents during the maintenance work on the power distribution network. He said the standard operating procedure should be followed during the maintenance work for the safety of the outsourced employees of the UPPCL. He said stern action would be taken in case of lapses leading the accidents and casualties.
