Tuesday, 28 February 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In what can be termed as a major reform the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) has decided to conduct the PCS examinations every year on the pattern of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This would be a major departure from the past when these examinations were held after a gap of four to five years or more. Pertinently the UKPSC has recently conducted the main examination of PCS -2021 and before that the PCS 2016 were conducted.

The chairman of the UKPSC Rakesh Kumar said that a decision to organise the PCS examinations every year has been taken and for it the gap between two examinations would be reduced. He said that a start in this direction would be made in the PCS examinations 2023. The preliminary examination for PCS-2023 will be held in the month of July this year.  He added that a proposal to make the pattern of the PCS examinations similar to the UPSC civil services examinations has been passed by the commission and sent to the State administration. This will help the applicants of the State for preparing for the civil services examinations also.

Kumar said that the commission is following the system of horizontal reservation granted to the women of the State under the Uttarakhand Civil Services (horizontal reservation for the women) Act- 2022.

The UKPSC chairman said that the commission has successfully conducted the PCS main examination 2021 from February 23 to 26. He said that the commission had received a total of 2,56,935 applications against the 318 posts for the PCS-2021 and in the preliminary examinations held in April 2022, a total of 5,636 candidates were declared pass to appear in the main examinations. In the main examinations 4,115 candidates took part which is 73.01 per cent of the total candidates.

He further added that the commission is undertaking simultaneous conduct of other examinations as well. On March 5, 2023 Junior assistant examination would be held in 412 examination centres in which 1,45,239 candidates would take part. Similarly on April 9, 2023 forest guard examination would be held in 617 examination centres in which 2,06,431 candidates would participate. On April 23 the examination for assistant accountant would be held. The commission would organise the Uttarakhand Judicial Services (civil judge) examination-2023  ( preliminary) on April 30 this year.
