PUJARI APPOINTED NEW HEALTH MINISTER  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: Following the untimely demise of Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari was appointed as the new Health Minister on Monday. With approval of Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik allocated the Health and Family Welfare portfolio to Pujari, who is also holding the portfolio of Excise.

 

RAJENDRA MISHRA BAGS POLICE MEDAL  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: Assistant Director, Union Ministry of Home Affairs Rajendra Narayan Mishra was awarded with the Indian Police Medal for his meritorious services. He received the award from Home Minister Amit Saha during the inaugural function of All India Conference of DG and IG of Police in New Delhi. Mishra along with his wife Sonala Mukherjee were invited to the occasion. Mishra is the son of noted social worker late Kamala Kanta Mishra of Jajpur district and son-in-law of Prof Ajit Kumar Mukherjee.

 

KIIT-KISS TO PROMOTE RUGBY  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The KIIT and KISS on Monday signed an agreement with the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) to promote rugby both at the grassroots and high-performance levels. As per the MoU, the KIIT-KISS has become the only university in India to be the associate sponsor of Rugby India for the next three years. The State Government remains the main sponsor of the game. KIIT & KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta and IRFU president Rahul Bose signed the MoU.

 

NATIONAL SEMINAR IN SRI SRI UNIVERSITY

Cuttack: A national seminar will be held by the Department of English at Sri Sri University on February 3. The seminar entitled as ‘Reinventing Indian English Literature across the Post-Independence Era’ will be inaugurated by internationally-acclaimed poet Jayanta Mahapatra while noted writer Hara Prasad Das will offer keynote address. Professors, researchers and scholars from across the country shall exchange their swords of wit and wisdom in the seminar. Seminar director Prof KP Mahapatra informed that the national seminar would be held as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

 

DRUNKEN MAN SLITS WIFE’S THROAT IN PURI

Puri: A drunken man allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat at Dighal Slum under the Nimapada police station in Puri district following a domestic feud on Sunday night. Irfan Khan (36) used to frequently thrash his wife Baharun Bibi (26) after consuming liquor. A heated exchange of words erupted between Irfan and Baharun as the former returned home in a drunken state. The quarrel took a violent turn as he slit her throat with a blade. The woman bled profusely and died on the spot. Locals nabbed the accused and informed police about the incident. Cops detained him for interrogation.

 

SOIL CONSERVATION OVERSEER HELD TAKING 35K BRIBE

Cuttack: The Vigilance police on Monday caught Dhanujaya Dhoba, Soil Conservation Overseer, Thuala Rampur in Kalahandi district, red-handed WHILE accepting A bribe of Rs 35,000. Dhoba had demanded the bribe from the complainant (beneficiary) to facilitate release of payment in his favour and other beneficiaries under MGNREGA towards work relating to digging of a staggered trench. Later, searches were launched on the rented residential house of Dhoba at Bhawanipatna and residential house in Rayagada. Then, he was arrested and forwarded to court.

 

OJS to hold blood donation camp in K’pada

Kendrapada: A blood donation camp will be organised on February 5 by the Odisha Janaseva Sangathan (OJS) at Chandibazar, Chandol in Kendrapada district. To make the camp successful, a preparatory meeting was held under supervision of president OJS Sovan Acharya  and State convenor OJS Deepak Kumar Choudhury. Other members like Bikash Swain, Simadri Sekhar Parida, Iswar Chandra Padhi, Dhirendra Satapathy, Pratap Kumar Panda, Alok Kumar Sahoo, Gajendra Senapati, Prasant Kumar Ojha, Bharat Chandra Jena, Nrusingh Charan Parida, Keshab Charan Mishra and Sasmita Swain were present. Junior Red Cross Officer Laxman Swain motivated youths to donate blood for a healthy life and to save lives.

 

ASKA PS IIC SAHOO FELICITATED  (Pix)

Brahmapur: The Nrityam Kala Gabeshana Kendra of Hinjilicut on Sunday felicitated Aska police station IIC Prasanta Kumar Sahoo for his PS being awarded as the best police station in India. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had felicitated Sahoo in a special function in New Delhi. Nrityam team headed by director Krishna DK and student artists honoured Sahoo in the PS premises.
