Prominent leaders and public representatives from the Muslim community met chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and requested him to ensure that anti-social elements do not exploit the situation in Purola, Uttarkashi to disturb the atmosphere in Uttarakhand and damage the interests of the Muslim community.

The delegation including Uttarakhand Waqf Board chairman Shadab Shams, Laksar MLA Haji Mohammed Shahzad and others met Dhami and submitted a memorandum to him. They stated in the memorandum that considering the facts of the situation in Purola, Uttarkashi, it appears as if some anti-social elements are conspiring to spoil the atmosphere in the mountains. Strict action should be taken against such elements but at the same time, those who have been living in the mountainous regions for generations are now afraid, hassled and consistently expressing their problems on telephone and the local Muslims of the area are being harassed by some anti-social elements. Their boards have been removed from their places of business and they are being pressurised to migrate from there. The delegation requested the CM to ensure that the interests of all communities, especially the Muslim community are protected and that strict action should be taken against those fuelling the dispute. Talking to The Pioneer, Shams said that the CM has assured that the law and order will be maintained and that nobody will be allowed to violate the law. Shams further said that the whole community should not be made to suffer for the mistakes of a few. State Haj committee chairman Khatib Ahmed, Uttarakhand Waqf board members Mohammed Anis, Iqbal Ahmed and State Haj committee member Nafiz Ahmed.
