Man killed for spitting outside neighbour’s house

Saturday, 09 December 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a shocking case, a man was killed allegedly by his neighbour just for spitting pan masala outside his house. The incident took place in the Kotwali Nagar area of Sitapur district.

The victim, identified as Anurag (28), reached his house in Ambedkar Nagar Colony late on Wednesday night. He spat outside the house of his neighbour, Narendra Mohan alias Lucky. It resulted in a dispute between Anurag and Narendra. As the dispute escalated, Anurag’s neighbour brought a sharp-object and attacked him. He then fled the scene, leaving Anurag bleeding.

Anurag’s family members rushed him to the district hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency ward. However, his condition did not improve and the doctors at the hospital referred him to KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow where he succumbed. The bereaved family members created a ruckus. In the meantime, police reached the spot on being informed and tried to reason with the protesting family members.

They assured them proper action and also passed on the message to their counterparts in Sitapur. CO, City, Sushil Kumar Singh said that the dispute started after Anurag spat pan masala outside his neighbour’s house.

The police had initially registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) but after the victim died, the case was filed under Section 302 (murder). The police said they were now trying to arrest the accused, Narendra, who is absconding.

In another incident in Amethi, the body of a 33-year-old man was found hanging from a tree near a pond on Thursday evening, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Ansar, a resident of Phula village in the Mohanganj Kotwali police station area, they added.

The villagers spotted Ansar’s body found hanging from the tree about 8 kms from his house, Mohanganj Kotwali SHO Dhirendra Yadav said. The police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy, Yadav said. Ansar worked at a bakery in Mohanganj, the police said. More details will be revealed once the autopsy report is received, the SHO said, adding that further investigations are underway.
