IIT -ISM is to prepare District Scientific Water Plan for a long term basis under Jal Shakti Abhiyan- Catch The Rain (JSA-CTR).
Soon an MoU is to be signed with institute and district adminiatration in this regards. A research team comprising Prof Anshumali, Head Environment Department, Prof Tinesh Pathania, Prof Riya Dutta and Prof Vittal Hari is to undertake research under themses including impact assessment of constructed water harvesting structures on water balance, identification of new sites for the development of water harvesting structures, hydrological modeling based climate scenarios and restoration of small watersheds under the project.
According to Prof Anshumali Dhanbad is among 150 selected districts across country that has been identified as water-stressed regions by the Government of India.
The District Administration Dhanbad led by DC Sandeep Singh and DDC Shashi Prakash Singh discussed about project with the IIT (ISM) Team.
The IIT team also met Rahul Sharma Nodal Officer to look after progress of the ongoing JSA-CTR schemes on Saturday who was in Dhanbad to discuss the project .
During deliberations, the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad presented the historical and current scenarios of the land use and land cover change and suggested land cover under forest and water should be 4:1 (for example 4 hectare land for forest cover and 1 hectare land for water bodies in a synergistic manner to achieve the target of drinking water availability round the year.
Prof Anshumali said,the role of community participation is retearated during deliberations to fix the collective responsibility on every stakeholders.
The District Administration and Rahul Sharma Sharma appreciated the presentation of the IIT (ISM) team and very soon MoU will be signed between the District Administration and IIT ISM take up this plan in a phase wise manner.
