World Environment Day was celebrated at ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (ICAR-IIAB), Garhkhatanga, Ranchi on 5th June, 2023 with grandeur. Aboobacker Siddique, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Co-operative, Govt. of Jharkhand was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Over one thousand saplings of different tree species are being planted on the occasion by the students, scientists and staff of the institute to mark the special occasion.
In his keynote speech, Siddique emphasized on man-environment synergy as a holistic developmental model for protecting the ailing earth. He lauded the initiative of ICAR-IIAB to take up such a mass plantation drive in its campus. He hoped that sooner the campus would be greener with such a move. On the occasion Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-IIAB highlighted the need for preserving nature and reducing the use of plastics particularly the single use plastics.
He hoped that with continued support of both ICAR and state government and closer interaction with the line departments of the state, the institute will turn out to be the torch bearer of ICAR in the eastern region of the country. The secretary inspected the green initiatives like rain water harvesting ponds, green building under construction in the campus and congratulated the institute for such moves. He opined that in due course of time the institute will make its mark not only in the region but across the country and abroad.
