Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday made several announcements while giving presents to rural watchmen as he announced an honorarium of Rs 11,000 and a Uniform allowance of Rs 4,000 along with a bicycle every 5 years. Apart from this, the watchmen will get Rs 1,000 annually for stick and torch batteries.
Meeting the representatives of village chowkidars from across the state including Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Karnal here in Chandigarh, Khattar said that the government has done the work of transforming the system and has ensured that all the sanitation workers and other workers get their honorarium on time every month. Works like making BPL ration cards, old age pension, Ayushman Bharat Yojana cards are also being done through PPP. This scheme is directly benefiting the villagers and there is a pleasant atmosphere among the people.
Khattar said that the rural watchmen are an important link in the rural areas. Apart from birth and death registration, complete cooperation is taken from village watchmen in marriage registration work as well. He said that now watchmen will get Rs. 400 every month instead of Rs. 300 for their cooperation in death registration work of the village. He said that online arrangements will be made for the honorarium of watchmen. For this, Chowkidars have to ensure their attendance online in the Village Secretariat and Panchayat Ghar so that they can get their honorarium on time every month.
He said that the increased honorarium for watchmen will be implemented from October 2023 and will be given in the honorarium for the month of November. On this, the Chowkidar organizations expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister. He said that in case of sudden death of any BPL family member in the age group of 18 to 45 years in the state, the government is providing financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to their kin. Apart from this, an amount of Rs. 3 lakh is being given to persons aged between 45 to 60 years in case of sudden death. He said that rural watchmen will also be given a benefit of Rs 5 lakh in case of accidental death.
Rural watchmen who come under Municipal Corporation will be adjusted on other posts as per their qualification.
