After five years of announcement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the expansion of the daily crushing capacity of the Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill at Kalakheda Hasanpur in Amroha district is set to commence soon.

The cooperative sector sugar mill is one of the units under the UP Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Limited. The expansion will increase the mill’s sugarcane crushing capacity, which will benefit farmers in the region.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the expansion of the Hasanpur sugar mill during a public meeting there on April, 2018.  The cooperative sugar mill has floated the tender for awarding the contract for the expansion project. The contract is likely to be awarded soon after completing the bidding process.

The district unit of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh had been raising the demand for the expansion of the daily crushing capacity of the sugar mill for the last over five years.

In June 2022 , the state government had announced the plan to modernise the sugar mills, distillery plants, production of sulphur-free sugar, and increasing sugarcane yield and sugar production of the sugar mills under UP Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Limited in a phased manner in its blueprint for the next five years.

As per the blueprint, the government plans to modernise 14 sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh Co-operative Sugar Mills Federation Limited. The work will be done in several phases and in the first phase, the modernisation of the sugar mills in Satha (Aligarh) and Maharajganj-Nautanwa was taken up in 2022-23.

In the second phase, the government plans to modernise the sugar mills of Bilaspur in Kasganj, Seemakheda in Bareilly and Burhanpur in Pilibhit. Sugar mills at Ghosi in Mau, Mahmudabad in Sitapur, Bisalpur in Pilibhit and Budaun will be modernised in 2024-25.

The sugar mills at Kasganj in Farrukhabad, Morna in Muzaffarnagar, Tilhar in Shahjahanpur and Baghpat will be modernised in the third phase.
