Governor, CP Radhakrishnan today inaugurated Country's first Giloy Processing and Research Center at Forestry Faculty of BAU, on the occasion of the university’s 43rd Foundation Day on Monday. Radahakrishnan closely observed this newly established center and he himself operated various machines for Giloy processing installed in the center and took detailed information about the resources and facilities available in the modern laboratory. Jharkhand's Agriculture Minister Badal and Kanke MLA Samrilal were also present on this occasion along with BAU VC, Onkar Nath Singh.
The Governor described the establishment of the center as a unique achievement of BAU and expressed happiness. He said that students and scientists will get an opportunity for better research studies from this center established under the centrally sponsored 'RKVI' project at a cost of about Rs One and a half crore. Giloy extract prepared from the processing of Giloy plant will be used in the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. He advised BAU to manufacture tablets and capsules by taking license and appreciated the efforts of VC, Singh and In-Charge, Dr Kaushal Kumar.
Agriculture Minister Badal called it a historic achievement of BAU. He said that the establishment of Giloy Village in each village of 16 districts of the State, distribution of two lakh Giloy saplings to the farmers of selected villages and distribution of other materials will promote the commercial cultivation of Giloy in the State, will increase the income of the farmers.
On the occasion BAU VC, Singh said that BAU will buy Giloy saplings produced by farmers and its processing and research work will be done through the center. Herbal companies are being associated for its marketing, he added.
On the occasion, In-Charge Dr. Kaushal Kumar gave detailed information about the future activities and programs of the center.
Earlier, the 43rd Foundation Day of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) was celebrated with enthusiasm and harmony on Monday. Governor, CP Radhakrishnan was the Chief Guest of the occasion and Agriculture Minister, Badal was Special Guest.
Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 43rd Foundation Day main function organized at the Faculty of Agriculture auditorium located at BAU. Addressing the function, he termed the recent MoU signed by BAU with National and international institutions as a very positive initiative and emphasized on mutual cooperation and sharing of new topics and research with other institutions. He told farmers to develop good research and transfer agriculture technology to farmers with full confidence. Apart from the basic course, the students were asked to gain more knowledge from e-books and internet and to prepare for administrative service.
“Development of resources in institutions is a process. Proper use of resources should always bring benefits and resources should be used more and more in the interest of the society. People will remember the 25 years of life of Lord Birsa Munda for the next 25,000 years. The BAU established in his name has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and allied sector of the State. Today is an opportunity to take a pledge to follow the ideals of Lord Birsa to make the state a pioneer in the agriculture sector and establish second position in the Country,” said Radhakrishnan.
The Governor appreciated the initiative of the Vice Chancellor for always giving respect to the veteran professors and employees. He said that he will have all possible cooperation in taking this university forward by becoming a better bridge between the State and the Central Government.
Special guest Agriculture Minister Badal appreciated the National and International achievements of the university in the last three years under the leadership of Vice Chancellor (VC), Dr ON Singh. He said that there is a lot of potential in the animal husbandry and fisheries sector in the state. “For technical guidance in these possibilities, the State Government is moving forward in the direction of establishment of Veterinary University and Fisheries University. The Government has also approved the establishment of a large auditorium named after Abdul Kalam in the university campus,” he added.
In the presidential address, the VC threw light on the important achievements and activities of BAU in the last three years. “More than 18 hundred students of 11 colleges of the university are studying. In the past years, the students of the new colleges have performed very well in the national level management and higher agricultural education entrance competitive examination, Agricultural Scientific Board Examination, NET examination, through JPSC in agriculture and animal husbandry service, banking and private sectors. Agricultural scientists succeeded in developing dozens of improved crop varieties and small agricultural equipment after decades. For the first time, University's Birsin and Birsol formulations got patent, AOU from Soka University, Japan and agricultural extension programs are benefiting lakhs of farmers every year,” he added.
On the occasion, the Governor released BAU Annual Report 2022-23, BAU Students Magazine (The Zenith), Kisan Patrika Pathari Krishi, Giloy Book, Fodder Crop Manual and two books published by Veterinary teachers. He also felicitated some farmers. Apart from this, retired teachers Dr. MP Singh and Dr. Ramji Prasad and non-teaching staff SK Ganguly, DK Ghosh and Krishna Ram, Agriunisports silver medalist student Satish Pahan, essay competition winner student Shweta Kumari and employee Bharti Kumari were felicitated.
