Good Friday observed in all Churches of the State capital

Saturday, 08 April 2023 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Good Friday was observed in all the city churches on 7 April 2023 by carrying the cross with its solemnity, the very symbol Christians.  Good Friday is the day of the passion and death of Jesus and one of the holiest days of the year. The Christians and the Catholics attended Good Friday Service with gratitude and joy for the love of Christ. Good Friday reminded the unconditional love of Father who sent his only Son to die for all humanity.

Archbishop AAS Durairaj SVD leading the Good Friday service at Our Lady of Universal Church, Kolar, said that we don't celebrate Good Friday because of Jesus' suffering and death but for giving a new meaning of the suffering and death. The death of Jesus on the cross was not an accident or a misfortune but it is the plan of God that He gave his only son to die for humanity for the redemption he added.  Humanity is born to live but Jesus the Son of God was born to die for all he said. Explaining the death of Jesus, he said he was Hanging on the Cross, disowned and deserted by His friends, mocked by the foes, experiencing a very lonely and excruciating death. It's because of His love for humanity and a wonder of His glorious love, he added.

There were 14 stations of the way of the Cross observed by people at St. Josephs’ Co-ed school ground, Kolar. The priests were in red colour vestments symbolising the blood of Christ and the martyrs. There were passion narratives taken from the Bible followed by the veneration of the Cross and communion service to celebrate the Good Friday.

All men and women were found in white dress marking the death of a person. Many Churches enacted the passion and death of Jesus during the way of cross procession.

On the occasion, the Assumption Church in Bhopal held a solemn and moving Passion of Christ service. The service was presided over by ArchBishop Emirates Leo Cornelio and included the enactment of the Way of the Cross by church members.

The enactment of the Way of the Cross was an emotional and powerful experience. Church members dressed in costumes representing various characters from the Passion of Christ, such as Jesus, Mary, and Simon of Cyrene. They carried the cross through each of the 14 stations, accompanied by the reading of the relevant Gospel passage and a prayer.

The actors depicted the various scenes with great skill and emotion, and the congregation was visibly moved by the experience.

The enactment was a powerful reminder of the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus, and it brought the events of the Passion to life in a way that words alone could not. Following the Way of the Cross, ArchBishop Emirates Leo Coenellio presided over the prayer service. The archbishop gave a moving homily, reflecting on the meaning of the Passion and the sacrifice of Jesus. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and humility, and he urged the congregation to live their lives in accordance with these values.
