A BJD youth leader died after being mowed down by a speeding car in Khambari village of Digapahandi block in Ganjam district on Tuesday night when he was returning home.
The deceased was identified as Lalit Mohan Mohapatra, a former Sarpanch of the village.
The deceased’s family members have alleged that he was murdered as he had a heated altercation with a youth, who has criminal antecedents.
Though Lalit left the spot by his Bullet motorcycle, the youth allegedly followed him in his car. Later, the youth hit Lalit’s motorbike from the rear and even dragged him in the stretch between the village school and panchayat area.
Notably, the youth also took Lalit to the Digapahandi hospital and later fled from there. An investigation has started by police into the incident based on a complaint filed at the Nuagaon police station by the deceased’s family.
Following the incident, a large number of BJD members gathered before the Digapahandi hospital and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
