Excessive rainfall has disrupted normal life across the state for the past whole week and trend continued as heavy rains were witnessed at several places on Sunday.
The water level of Parvati river increased in Sheopur district on Sunday. The ramp built on the river near Jalalpura got submerged. Sheopur's contact with Khatoli, Kota and Etawah in Rajasthan has been cut off. Sundi village of the district has taken shape of an island.
The state capital Bhopal witnessed heavy rainfall in the afternoon in Bhopal as well.
There is an alert of heavy rain in 10 districts including Indore on Sunday. Light rain may occur in Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain. Due to incessant rains, the water level of rivers and dams is rising. Shipra in Ujjain, Burhanpur and Tapti in Betul are in spate. There is a strong current even in the rainy rivers.
According to the Meteorological Department, four rain systems are active in the state. Because of this, rains will continue in the coming days. A cyclonic circulation has formed in Madhya Pradesh. East and West winds are meeting in South Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The monsoon trough line is also passing through. More than 10 villages have lost contact with the district due to sinking of the Hatnur bridge built on the Tapti river in Burhanpur.
Within a month of the entry of monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, 42 percent of the total average rainfall of the season has been received. It generally receives 949 mm which is 37.36 inches of rain during the rainy season. Out of this, 15.64 rains have been received so far. There are 14 districts in the state where more than 50 percent of the rain has been received. In Indore, Burhanpur and Seoni, this figure has reached 65 percent. On the other hand, Satna-Rewa has received only 22 percent rainfall. The rainfall figure in any district of Rewa division is not more than 26 percent . However, there are still 69 days left for the monsoon season.
Meteorologists are hopeful that this time also the rainfall figure may reach more than normal. Due to heavy rains since last few days, water has overflowed in many big dams of the state. Monsoon had entered the state on June 24 this year. The monsoon activity in the state lasts till 30 September.
In Indore, Burhanpur, Seoni, Bhind, Narsinghpur, Sehore, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Dewas, Ratlam, Shajapur, Neemuch, Sheopurkalan and Harda, the total rainfall has been between 50 percent to 65 percent . This figure is of the total rainfall during the monsoon season. Rewa division has received the least rainfall. Satna has received 20 percent , Rewa 22 percent , Sidhi 25 percent and Singrauli 26 percent of the total normal rainfall. In Ashoknagar, Damoh, Panna and Chhatarpur the figure is 30 percent or less.
For the last two-three days, heavy rains have been going on across the state. Because of this, the gates of several dams including Kolar in Sehore, Omkareshwar in Khandwa, Bargi in Jabalpur, Gambhir in Ujjain had to be opened. Due to heavy rains, water had to be released in July itself. Apart from these, there has been a good inflow of water in the big Bansagar, Gandhisagar, Mohanpura, Gopikrishna, Sanjay Sagar, Tigra and Tillar dams of the state within a week.
Water has also increased in Kaliasot and Kerwa dams of Bhopal. The Upper Lake is only 3 and a half feet empty. Many rivers including Narmada, Shipra, Kalisindh, Parvati, Betwa have also received good water.
