Educationist and RU former dean, Dr Karma Oraon passes away

 Renowned anthropologist and former dean Social Science of Ranchi University, Dr. Karma Oraon passed away at the age of 72 at Medanta Hospital on Sunday at 7 am. He was admitted to the hospital a week back due to kidney ailments. He died while undergoing dialysis at hospital.

Karma Oraon was born in Mahua Toli village of Bishunpur block of Gumla district. His elder son Dharmesh Oraon died in 2021 from Corona. He was associated with Reliance. Second son Sunny Oraon works in Dhanbad. The elder daughter-in-law lives in Mumbai. She will come by this evening. Daughter and son-in-law live in Ireland. His last rites will be performed on Monday at 9 am in Ranchi itself.

Dr. Karma Oraon was also the Head of Department of Anthropology in Ranchi University. He had also been a member of the Public Service Commission in the integrated Bihar. Along with this, he was also associated with a dozen social organizations. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed deep condolences on Dr Karma Oraon’s death.

Soren in his tweeter message said, ‘received the sad news of the demise of Dr. Karma Oraonji, a great educationist and always alert and thinking about tribal upliftment. Guidance was available on many subjects from Dr. Karma Oraon ji. His death has caused me a personal loss today. May God give peace to the departed soul. Also give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this difficult time of grief.”

Dr. Ajit Sahai said that we both studied together since childhood. Did post graduation together and also did a job. Karma was very emotional in nature. The Corona epidemic took away his elder son. This was a big blow to him. Since then he had been a little ill. He also wrote many books and also visited the country and abroad.

Former Assembly Speaker Dr. Dinesh Oraon said that he had taught us in college and PG as well. He was also associated with the Jharkhand movement. He was vocal on the question of Jharkhand. He always worked in the interest of the state and also made people aware for the development of Jharkhand. Dr. Abhay Sagar Minj said, we have lost a true guardian.

Expressing condolences, State BJP President and MP Deepak Prakash said that Dr Oraon had devoted his entire life for the upliftment of the tribal society. His untimely demise is an irreparable loss to the state.

Prakash prayed to God for the peace of the soul. He said that God should give patience and courage to the family members in the hour of grief.

Expressing condolence, leader of the Legislature Party and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi said that the work done by Oraon language, culture and welfare of the tribal society is remarkable, which will always inspire the people of the state.

Former minister, member of coordination committee of Jharkhand government and working president of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, Bandhu Tirkey has said that the demise of Dr. Karma Oraon, a great scholar, brilliant educationist and successful leader, is such an irreparable loss for Jharkhand that cannot be compensated. . He said that as former Dean of Ranchi University and Head of Department of Anthropology, he gave a new direction to Ranchi University.
