A 25-year-old constable was injured after he shot himself inside a police station with his service rifle in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday night at the Chhindgarh police station premises, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.
Constable Narendra Negi shot himself on the right chest with an Insas rifle. Chavan said he was rushed to the district hospital.
“As per preliminary information, Negi was undergoing treatment for a long time for an old head injury and was disturbed as he was not getting cured. Prima facie, this could be the reason for his suicide attempt,” the official said.
