The Congress in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday asked the Modi government to declare Rs 3,100 as paddy support price instead of making the promise in only states which are facing elections.
PCC chief Deepak Baij said in statement that farmers and paddy crop are a matter of concern to the BJP only during elections.
The BJP had always cheated farmers, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails from Gujarat and is at present an MP from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh but farmers in these areas sell their paddy crop at a throwaway price of 1,400-1,500 a quintal, Baij said.
Modi will not declare Rs 3,100 paddy price for the entire country as the promise is an election gimmick, he added.
