Tension prevailed in the Srinagar police station area of Mahoba district when two communities clashed over playing colours during the Goddess Durga idol immersion procession on Tuesday evening.
Police acted promptly and detained three persons on the spot.
Superintendent of Police of Mahoba, Aparna Gupta, said that a dispute broke out between two communities while taking the idol for immersion in the main market of Srinagar police station when colours were thrown on a person belonging to another community.
Prima facie it appeared that colours were thrown on a person belonging to another community by a girl from the group of those going for immersion.
“The irate man along with aides allegedly thrashed the girl which drew the attention of those going for immersion and they also intervened leading to a brawl,” Gupta said.
However, cops deployed at the crossing rushed and pacified the groups.
“Based on statements of eye witnesses, an FIR was registered against eight persons and three of them have been detained while efforts are being made to nab others,” said Srinagar Station Officer Praveen Singh.
Thereafter the procession continued its march for immersion.
In another shocking event, a girl belonging to the Muslim community created a ruckus in the ongoing Durga puja event in Basti region by raising communally sensitive and anti-India slogans.
On Monday evening, the girl barged into the event and threw black cloth on the idol of Maa Durga and raised slogans praising Islam and Pakistan. The girl got on the stage and snatched the mike from the person who was singing praises of Maa Durga and yelled “Islam Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad”.
The police booked the girl on Tuesday for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and are investigating the incident further.
As per reports, the incident happened during an ‘jagran’ event which was organised in Chawri Bazar area on Monday evening.
The anti-India slogans irked the Hindu devotees present there and they immediately informed the police, but the authorities reportedly ignored the incident at first.
The locals complained that the police were called but they failed to arrive at the spot. Notably, on Tuesday, the locals blocked the Chawri Bazar area and raised slogans against the administration. “Police Prashasan Murdabad, Hindustan Zindabad,” the slogans read.
The incident was recorded on the CCTV footage which stands proof that slogans praising Islam and Pakistan were deliberately raised in a Hindu event by a Muslim girl. Also, Maa Durga was insulted by the girl as she threw black cloth at the idol.
The news of the incident spread like fire in the Basti region. The Hindus residing in the city condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused girl.
The locals, meanwhile, who witnessed the incident said that the girl was surrounded by 6-7 persons when she raised anti-India slogans but she was not stopped by anyone. The police also did not come to the event, locals complained.
The police took cognisance of the event after the mass protest and booked the girl for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shehmani Upadhyaya commented on the issue and confirmed that a police case has been registered in the matter and that all the persons responsible for creating communal tension at the event will be arrested.
The police also stated the possibility that the girl might have been trained by some miscreants who wanted to disturb the peace in the region.
“All such people will be exposed,” the police added.
