SGPC president expressed grief over killing of a Sikh shopkeeper in Pak
Amritsar: SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Sunday strongly condemned the attacks on minority Sikhs in Pakistan. Dhami said that the Sikh shopkeeper, in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan Manmohan Singh's shooting death is a very unfortunate incident. “The government should be serious about the security of minority Sikhs in Pakistan. This is the second incident of attack on Sikhs in two days,” said Dhami adding that it is sad that many such incidents have happened in Pakistan before. If the government had given severe punishment to the culprits, this would not have happened again. He also demanded strict action against those who killed Manmohan Singh. He also appealed to the India’s Foreign Minister to express strong objection to the Pakistan Government in this matter at the diplomatic level and ask them to take appropriate steps to protect the lives and property of the Sikhs in the future.
Haryana Minister vows to accelerate rural development
Chandigarh: Haryana Minister of State for Labour and Employment Anoop Dhanak on Sunday expressed the State Government's unwavering commitment to accelerate the pace of development works in rural areas and promptly address the demands of people’s representatives. Recognizing the vital role of Panchayats in expediting development work, he stressed the importance of jointly identifying the challenges faced by their respective villages. He highlighted the implementation of the Gram Darshan portal, a platform designed to enhance transparency in government-led development projects. The portal enables the common man to voice their opinions, seek resolutions for their issues, and share their demands, complaints, and suggestions, he added.
Mini Secretariat to be constructed at Badkhal
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday announced the construction of a Mini Secretariat with state-of-the-art facilities in Badkhal. Apart from this, the Chief Minister assured to allocate Rs 100 crores to the Municipal Corporation's account by Monday (June 26) to pace the city’s development works. No stone will be left unturned to pace Faridabad’s development works, said Khattar, while making it clear that any development projects presented to him for the benefit of the general public would be given first consideration. After the construction of mini secretariat at Badkhal, all the offices will be under one roof.
Ex-serviceman fires shot at father over AC in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur: A 40-year-old ex-armyman allegedly fired a gunshot at his father in a fight over replacing an air-conditioner (AC) in their house Jalal Chak village in Hoshiarpur. The police on Sunday that Amarjeet Singh shot at his father Veer Singh with his licensed 12 bore rifle on late Saturday night. Veer Singh was admitted to Dasuya civil hospital from where he was referred to a hospital in Amritsar. The Police said that they have arrested Amarjeet Singh under relevant sections, including attempt to murder, of the Indian penal Code and the Arms Act.
KU’s Sahiba receives ‘Best Youth Coordination Award’
Chandigarh: Sahiba, a Youth Red Cross Volunteer from Kurukshetra University, has been honoured with the ‘Best Youth Coordination Award’. “The Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch, Chandigarh, organized a five-day state-level Youth Red Cross Adventure Camp in Manali from June 19 to 23, 2023 — witnessing a participation from 88 female students from 10 universities and seven colleges, along with Youth Red Cross counsellors. The team from Kurukshetra University also took part in the camp, and Sahiba, a Youth Red Cross Volunteer from the university, was awarded the Best Youth Coordination Award,” said the spokesperson.
SAD cautions Centre over China’s attempt to eliminate Sikh history from Eastern India
Chandigarh: SAD leader Gurjeet Singh Talwandi on Sunday presented historical evidence regarding Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Udasis’ to the North East while making out a case for doing justice to the Sikh community by repatriating Gurudwara Dongmar Sahib in Sikkim to the community. Talwandi said that since the matter was sub-judice, the Sikkim High court had ordered the aggrieved parties to come up with an amicable solution before next hearing on August 18, 2023. “In spite of the pendency of dispute before the High Court, Tseten Tashi Bhutia (Centre’s Minority Commission member) has presented a fresh memorandum to the Sikkim Governor seeking construction of Buddhist shrine in total indifference to the concerns and demands of Sikhs,” he added.
Farmers can now complete e-KYC for PMKSN from comfort of their homes
Chandigarh: Farmers of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana can now complete their e-KYC process without visiting the offices. Spokesperson said that the Central Government has introduced the PM-Kisan mobile app, aiming to streamline the entire procedure. This innovative app empowers farmers to conveniently fulfill their e-KYC requirements from the comfort of their own homes. Spokesperson explained that the app eliminates the need for OTP or fingerprint verification. Instead, it utilizes face authentication for e-KYC, enabling up to 100 farmers to complete the process.
Sukhchain Singh appointed NGAI’s working president
Chandigarh: With the aim of invigorating and strengthening the operations and activities of the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), significant appointments have been made in the oldest registered national Gatka organization. Association’s vice president Sukhchain Singh Kalsani has been elevated to the position of working president. Joint secretary Inderjodh Singh and national coordinator Simranjeet Singh have been promoted to the role of vice-president and working secretary. Besides, NGAI’s executive member Yograj Singh Bhambri has been appointed as national coordinator on a vacant post after elevation of Simranjeet Singh.
