The Commissionerate police on Thursday arrested two persons and seized two guns from their possession in connection with Wednesday’s road rage incident in which two persons suffered bullet injuries.

The arrested were identified as Dibakar Kalasa of Sundepur under Tangi police station in Khordha district and Raja Sahoo alias Pintu of Jharpada in Bhubaneswar.

Besides two guns, police recovered eight rounds of live ammunitions and nine empty cartridges. Police have launched a hunt for the other accused involved in the incident.

Notably, a dispute between two groups led by Shikar Jena and Pravat Martha, respectively, over car parking in front of Prajapati Mandap in Laxmisagar had led to the firing.

Pravat Martha, Jagannath Pradhan and others resorted to firing in which Sikhar Jena, brother of Ward-32 BJD Corporator Sridhar Jena, and his nephew Alok Kumar Jena suffered bullet injuries. The injured duo was first rushed to Capital Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. The conditions of the injured duo were stated to be stable, said city DCP Prateek Singh.

Shockingly, the shooting took place a stone’s throw distance from the Laxmisagar police station.

According to sources, Corporator Sridhar Jena’s elder nephew was returning home when some people stopped his way by allegedly parking their vehicle in front of his vehicle. Things took a violent turn when it led to a brawl between the supporters and family members of both the groups.

Corporator Jena said, “There were around 10-15 people. We have a shop near the flyover and my nephew was returning home from the shop. On his way home, the accused persons intentionally parked their vehicle in front of his vehicle.”

“I, my elder brother and my younger nephew rushed to the spot after he called us and informed us about the incident. They started abusing us when we reached the spot. Then, one of the accused took out a pistol and opened six rounds of fire in the air. This was all happening in the presence of police officials,” he said.

“When police seized the pistol from him, he took out another pistol and shot my elder brother and nephew,” he added.
