Bus services from the Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Odisha capital will commence in the month of October, said Vice-Chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Balwant Singh.
“More than 90% of the work at the bus terminal is already completed. We have developed the operational framework for the ISBT, and it will be operated through a public-private partnership model. Bus services will commence from the ISBT in October,” he said.
Once operational, the ISBT will become the largest bus terminal in the state, accommodating over 500 buses and serving thousands of passengers daily. Currently, the agency responsible for the project is focusing on the terminal’s lighting system.
Presently, buses are operating from a temporary site near the Khandagiri hill.
To ensure smooth functioning of the terminal, the authorities have devised a comprehensive traffic plan for buses entering and exiting the ISBT. This plan is designed to facilitate passengers while maintaining the orderly flow of traffic in the vicinity.
Under this plan, buses arriving from the Cuttack side will take a U-turn at Khandagiri Square before reaching the ISBT. Those approaching from the Khurda side will have direct access to the ISBT. Furthermore, the approach roads to the terminal from NH-16 have been widened to enhance accessibility.
