Shops and businesses remained closed on Monday in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division to protest against the violence against tribal women in Manipur.
The bandh was called by the Bastar division unit of the Sarva Adivasi Samaj (SAS), an umbrella body of tribal groups in the state.
The shutdown was supported by people from all sections of the society, said Prakash Thakur, president of SAS Bastar division.
The protest also took place in cities of other districts in the division.
The tribal-dominated Bastar division in south Chhattisgarh comprises Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma districts.
