Two youths riding a motorcycle threw acid on a law student waiting for a bus near Ambedkar Park in the Civil Lines area of Rampur on Friday.
Luckily, the acid fell on the bag of the girl and she suffered only minor burn injuries.
The local police visited the spot and registered a case. They also took two fellow students into custody and were grilling them in connection with the incident.
The victim, a resident of Shahbad Gate of Rampur city, is studying LLB from a private institute in Moradabad. On Friday, she was waiting near Ambedkar Park for the institute's bus to go to Moradabad when two youths riding a motorcycle came and threw acid on her.
Panicked by the sudden attack, the girl screamed for help after which some passers-by came to her help following which both the accused escaped.
On the clues provided by the girl, the cops immediately swung into action and took in custody two fellow students who were threatening the victim with dire consequences.
Civil Lines police station incharge Sharad Panwar said that the matter was related to a one-sided love affair. He said after the accused failed to lure the girl, he threatened her and finally on Friday threw acid on the girl to terrorise her.
Both the accused were detained and further interrogations were on.
