NABARD is organising the 'Aam Mahotsav' annually with the objective of encouraging tribal farmers by providing them a marketing platform for the mangoes produced under the NABARD's Wadi intervention.
In its sixth Year the 'Aam Mahotsav 6.0' is held from June 08 to 12 across 12 districts of the State. The event was formally inaugurated on Thursday at NABARD Office Bhopal, Hemant Kumar Soni Incharge-General Manager- incharge, Reserve Bank of India graced the occasion as Chief guest, and in the august prescence of Sunil Kumar, CGM NABARD MPRO; Binod Kumar Mishra, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India - Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh; Tarsem Singh Jeera, SLBC Convenor; PS Tiwari, Managing Director, Apex Bank. Besides the dignitaries froim the Banking Sector, the event was attend by NABARD Senior officials, WADI- Farmers (Mango Growers), NGO organisation.
The Chief guest Hemant Kumar Soni,GM-RBI in his address highly appreciated the efforts of NABARD for providing an urban marketing platform to the tribal WADI farmers ie the "Aam Mahotsav".
Alongside, he laid special emphasis on financial inclusion. In his speech he also encourage the farmers to establish banking linkages as a farmers collective and indivdial account. He advised the farmers to look ahead and add value to their products by way of primary and secondary processing so that the remuneration will be higher and sustainable. For example, he talked about mango juice, which can bring more income. Farmers were encouraged to take advantage of various insurance schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana.
Sunil Kumar, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Madhya Pradesh Regional Office in his key note addressed briefed the gathering on the various interventions of NABARD in its effort to not only provide sustainable livelihood to tribal farmers but also it is an example of climate change mitigation measure. NABARD remains committed and dedicated to make the country's agricultural and rural economy sustainable, resilient and remunerative.
PS Tiwari, Managing Director, Apex Bank appreciated this effort of NABARD. He also described the Wadi project as important for the environment because the more trees we plant, the more we will be saved from the problem of global warming. NABARD is not only implementing Wadi project but also running Rural Godown and many other schemes for the development of rural India. He also prayed for prosperity in the lives of the farmers.
Binod Kumar Mishra, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India in his address said that this unique initiative of NABARD is eagerly awaited by the residents of Madhya Pradesh and especially Bhopal. NABARD has made efforts to ensure market availability to these tribal farmers for their products for which he praised NABARD efforts. City dwellers getting chemical free mangoes directly from the farm at very reasonable price.
