Ranchi Police nabbed Shourya’s killer within four days of the abduction and murder of the eight-year-old child.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishor Kaushal said that a resident of Edalhatu under Bariatu police station area, 8-year-old Shaurya, son of Raju Gope was abducted and murdered. Ranchi police have solved the mystery of this incident and arrested the main accused Sanjeev Kumar Panda. “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the case. The SIT team arrested the main accused Panda. The arrested accused is originally a resident of Katkamdag police station area of Hazaribagh. He confessed to the police that he kidnapped and killed the child for money. The police have recovered a mobile phone, the car used in the incident and many other items from him,” he added.
Kaushal said that the accused Panda had been a tenant in Shaurya's house. “That's why he was fully aware of the financial condition of Shaurya's father, Raju Gope. “The accused has done MBA. He lived in Bangalore before the Corona period. Later he used to live with his sister and brother-in-law who were living as tenants in Shaurya's father Raju Gope's house. During this, he mingled with the entire family, including Raju Gope's son Shaurya. Later, Sanjeev started living in Ranchi's Pundag with a room. Meanwhile, he got into debt and hatched a conspiracy to kidnap Shaurya. After which he started following Sourya’s activities for several days. On the day of the incident when Shoury came out from his home to buy biscuit Panda kidnapped him,” he added.
The SSP said that when Panda made Shaurya sit in the car, he started making noise and tried to get down from the car. “Panda got scared seeing this. After going a short distance, he mercilessly attacked Shaurya several times, due to which Shaurya became unconscious. After which Sanju left Morhabadi and reached Nagdi directly. Shaurya was breathing during that time. In Nagdi itself, Sanjeev killed Shaurya. When Shaurya stopped breathing, he put him in a plastic bag and threw in a pond with bricks and ran straight to Koderma. After which the police arrested him,” he added.
