Chacha Chaudhary, the indelible comic character crafted by Pran Kumar Sharma, who resides deep within the heart of every Indian, is now being used to raise awareness among new voters.
This isn’t the first instance where the Government has employed characters like Chacha Chaudhary and other iconic comic figures to promote and raise awareness, be it for projects like Namami Ganga or initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Election Commission (EC) will use Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Raaka, Dhamaka Singh, Billoo and others to create awareness about elections among new voters.
In a one of a kind effort, a comic book titled Chacha Chaudhary and Chunavi Dangal published by Pran Comics has been launched to create awareness about elections among new voters through popular comic characters. The book was launched by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel.
Chacha Chaudharym Sabu, Raka, Billoo and Dhamaka Singh among others will now teach voters about the importance of elections, and how to enroll as voters. The comic will comprise 10 short stories on electoral aspects.
In the comic, Chacha Chaudhary also plays a pivotal role in introducing readers to various apps developed by the Election Commission of India like cVigil and KYC, thereby empowering them to become an active and informed participant in the election process. The comic book strongly emphasises the significance of women’s participation in the electoral process, aligning with ECI efforts to increase women’s participation.
“This comic is available in both print and digital formats, ensuring accessibility across all platforms. Additionally, to inspire young minds, free copies of the comic book will be distributed to schools, educating future voters about the elections,” the EC said in a statement.
The EC said 30,000 copies will be distributed for free and there will also be provision for lakhs of children to view them digitally.

Wearing a red turban and waistcoat with a double inside pocket, one of the biggest heroes, Chacha Chaudhary will now inspire people to use their right to vote for the candidates.
The EC on their X handle shared glimpses of the comics that have messages for children to understand the importance of voting.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the ECI wrote, “Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Raaka,Dhamaka Singh, Billoo & other comic characters will now create awareness amongst children about elections. In an unique initiative, the comic book, “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal”, published by Pran Comics, was released by the Commission today”Further in another post, the ECI said, “”Chacha Chaudhary ka dimag computer se tez chalta hai”, and his formidable intellect will now be harnessed by SVEEP division of ECI”.
The SVEEP stands for Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme which is the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India as Assembly elections are scheduled this year in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana States.
Meanwhile, the national election will be held in 2024.

Titled as ‘Chacha Chaudhary and Bye Bye Kachra’, Diamond Toons, a publication house, recently launched the fourth edition of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan series. In this edition, Chacha Chaudhary creates awareness on the three R’s of waste management - reduce, reuse and recycle.
Children being one of the major carriers of change, most of the characters in the comic book are aged between 5 and 15. With the help of children, Chacha Chaudhary teaches parents to segregate waste and throw them in coloured bins. He then goes to explain how wet waste can be treated completely through composting techniques and dry waste can be recycled.
In the second edition, Chacha Chaudhary collaborates with Akshay Kumar, who had propagated the message of open defecation free in his movie ‘Toilet-Ek Prem Katha’. With the help of Akshay Kumar, Chacha Chaudhary visits households in the village having no toilet and asks them to construct one for sanitation and hygiene purposes.
In the third edition, the famous ‘Roko Toko’ movement pioneered by children in Bhopal is used to carry forward the message of cleanliness. Along with a character named ‘Super Dustbin’, Chacha Chaudhary makes citizens of Bhopal aware about swachhta. Just like in the real life, children in the comic beating metal boxes loudly if they come across anyone defecating in the open or littering.
