The Trinamool Congress has strongly criticized the Delhi Police's denial of permission to the TMC to hold a rally in October in the national Capital.
In pursuant to an announcement by party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee that the TMC would hold a public rally in Delhi against the central deprivation the Bengal ruling outfit had on August 23 written to the Delhi Police seeking permission to organize a rally on October 2.
However, the permission has been denied, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “this is a politically motivated which once again proves that Delhi Police is not guided by law but the whims and fancies of the BJP.” Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek were to hold a public rally in Delhi pressing for the State’s demands, he said. “Our leadership was supposed to highlight the State’s demands and dues and the central deprivation … as to how they have not released more than Rs 1.15 lakh crore towards the clearance of 100-days’ work scheme, rural housing scheme and other projects … but the BJP Government is afraid of Mamata Banerjee … they think that she will expose them in public and so they have denied the permission to her to hold a rally here.”
Earlier in a rally in Kolkata Abhishek Banerjee has said that he would lead lakhs of people to Delhi where they would hold a dharna to force the central government to release the funds. “We are not begging for alms … we are asking for what is our rightful dues … they are not releasing the funds because they want to Bengal to starve … they want the people of Bengal who have voted against them to starve … so they are not releasing the funds … we will stage a big dharna and take lakhs of people from Bengal and force them to give what is rightfully ours,” the junior Banerjee who is also the MP from Diamond Harbour constituency had said.
Reacting to the Delhi Police action, senior TMC leader Jayprakash Majumdar said, “they (BJP) are afraid of Mamata Banerjee, they are afraid of INDIA alliance, they are afraid of the people of India and Bengal … which is why they are not giving the permission … but in any case the TMC will go ahead with its political programmes.”
Earlier, in a similar tone the Chief Minister said that “with each
passing day the BJP’s fear of INDIA is getting more evident.” On the
issue of the reduction of the price of LPG Banerjee said, “this proves
that they are afraid of INDIA … we have held only two meetings and see
they have brought down the price by Rs 200 … but this is just an eye
wash because before reducing prices they had increased it by Rs 800 …
before the elections they will reduce the price and then they will
again increase it.”
Banerjee who left for Mumbai to take part in the third INDIA meet also
said that she would make a demand for conferring Bharat Ratna on
superstar Amitabh Bacchhan. The Chief Minister on Wednesday met the
mega star in her Mumbai residence and tied him the threads of Rakhsha
Bandhan.
