More than 1.15 lakh rakhis were sent from the post offices (POs) of Varanasi Region to the different parts of the country and abroad, while 1.76 lakh rakhi received and distributed by the postmen in the recent days as the Department of Posts has made special arrangements for mail delivery for Raksha Bandhan festival. Giving this information, Postmaster General (PMG) of Varanasi Region Krishna Kumar Yadav said even on Wednesday along, about 23,000 Rakhi Daks (posts) were distributed to the people by the post offices of the region, “In the hi-tech society, the importance of silk threads of Rakhi is still intact amidst the virtual relationships. The Postal department also made all the preparations for this festival. While the Postal department made arrangements for waterproof designer envelopes for sending rakhis, the postmen continued to distribute rakhi-posts till late evening so that no brother’s wrist was left desolate,” said the PMG.
He said that the department has received a lot of appreciation from the people who expressed their happiness by thanking the Postal department. “The importance of Raksha Bandhan was seen not only in India but also in foreign countries. 1,125 rakhis were sent by speed posts and registered letters from post offices of Varanasi Region to countries like USA, UK, Singapore, UAE, Germany, Saudi Arabia, France, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Oman etc,”said Yadav, adding that at the same time, sisters living abroad also send rakhis to their brothers through the Postal department, which were delivered immediately through postmen.
According to the PMG, along with booking Rakhi mails, special arrangements have been made by the Postal department for special sorting and their quick delivery from post offices to Railway Mail Service (RMS) and sorting hubs. “Even today, post is the easiest and most accessible medium to send one’s message, in such a situation, most of the rakhis on Raksha Bandhan are sent by post,” he said and added that the Department of Posts, which has been spreading happiness through letters, has also given a new dimension to this festival of relationships.
