The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into an IED explosion on a bridge in Bishnupur district of Manipur earlier this month in which at least three persons were injured.
The NIA has registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, dacoity, waging war against the Government of India, unlawful assembly, causing hurt by dangerous weapons, intentional insult, criminal intimidation and mischief. In its FIR, the NIA has also slapped provisions of the Explosives Substances Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
A bomb blast took place on June 21 over a bridge adjoining the area of Phougachao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim road in Bishnupur district of Manipur.
According to the FIR, the IED was placed inside a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle parked on the bridge by some unknown miscreants suspected to be militants.
As a result of this explosion, part of the bridge was damaged on the western side. Three persons were injured and few houses were damaged due to the impact of the blast.
The NIA took over the case following a notification from the Union Home Ministry.
The incident took place even as the State is on the boil and facing ethnic strife for over a month.
