Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) has gained an individual ranking position of 571, for the first time in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Ranking (WUR) 2024. The QS World University Ranking assessment is based on nine ranking indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, citation per faculty, faculty to student ratio, international faculty, etc. In the previous year, the institute was listed first time in QS World ranking and placed in the band of 651-700. This year the ranking of the institute improved significantly to the individual ranking position 571.
Having been classified as a publicly funded institute with a very high research intensity in a focused subject area (Engineering and Technology), the institute has been consistently performing well in research and discovery, one of the key ranking evaluation parameters of QS WUR. Particularly, citation per faculty (CPF) has been the strongest ranking parameter of the institute and this year the institute ranked at 78 globally under this parameter compared to last year’s rank of 115. Further, among the Indian institutes evaluated by QS, IIT (BHU) secured 7th position under this research parameter (CPF). The Institute has got the best ranking so far and the Institute fraternity is very much excited and encouraged for better performance in the future on all parameters.
The institute has published a total of 9,240 Scopus-indexed papers in the domain of Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences & Health and Arts & Humanities during 2017-2021 and received a total of 92,822 citations (excluding self-citations) during 2017-2022.
IIT (BHU) Director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain congratulated the faculty members and research staff of the institute for their immense contribution on the research front that enabled the institute to achieve this mark globally.
He also stated that the institute has initiated several new academic and research collaborative activities with the international universities and research organisations and will continue to work hard to improve its performance in the regional and global rankings in the future.
Dean (R&D) Prof Vikash Kumar Dubey has also congratulated all stakeholders of the institute. We hope to have a much better ranking next time due to several new initiatives taken under leadership of the director Prof Jain, he added.
