The fifth Regional and Zonal Commanders’ level meeting between Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) was held on Monday through video conferencing and the two sides reviewed the entire gamut of their ties, Coast Guard officials said here on Wednesday.
Giving details, they said the meeting was conducted under the provisions of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) signed between the Coast Guards of two neighbouring countries in 2015 and 2017 respectively.The meeting was co-chaired by Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan, Commander Coast Guard Region (North East) and Captain Mohammad Kibria Haq, Zonal Commander, West Zone, Bangladesh Coast Guard.
During the meeting, common maritime issues like sensitization of fishermen on cross border fishing, information sharing and capability building were discussed.
The meeting was significant in providing added impetus to the already existing field level operational exchanged between the Coast Guard Region (North-East) of ICG and West Zone of BCG.
