Situated around 40 kms away from Bhopal, Kerwa Dam is the main picnic spot of the city. Due to the rain, there is greenery all around. People are also reaching Kerwa Dam to see water gushing out of the sluice gates during monsoon.
They also enjoy the view of nature with the overflowing view of the dam, but due to not filling up of the dam yet, they return disappointed.
It has been raining continuously in Madhya Pradesh for the last few days. Record rain has also occurred in Bhopal. Due to this, all the lakes and dams have been spilled. All the gates of Kaliasot-Bhadbhada Dam have been opened, but not a single gate of Kerwa Dam has opened. This dam is still 3 feet empty, whereas this dam was the first to be filled last year. Thousands are arriving to watch the dam overflow, but they return.
The full tank level of Kerwa Dam is 1673 feet. This time this dam has been filled up to 1669.29, that is, the dam is still empty up to 3 and a half feet in full filling. The gates of the dam will open automatically only after the full tank level.
Last time the gates of Kerwa Dam were opened first. At noon on September 17, five of the eight gates were open simultaneously. After this the gates of Bhadbhada were open. The gates of Kaliasot and Kerwa Dam were not opened.
Sehore district has been receiving good rains since last few days. It also rained in the catchment area of Upper Lake. Due to this, the big pond was filled up to the full tank level of 1666.80 feet. All 11 gates of Bhadbhada Dam had to be opened. Still two gates are open. The water released from Bhadbhada reached Kaliasot Dam. All its 13 gates were also opened. At present five to six gates are open. On the other hand, the catchment area of Kerwa Dam did not receive good rains. For this reason it has not yet been filled completely.
