Multipost EVM is used by the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission to conduct the election of more than one post simultaneously through Electronic Voting Machine. Control Unit, Ballot Unit and Detachable Memory Module (DMM) are the main components of EVM of the Commission. There is a unique ID number for identification of each Control Unit, Ballot Unit and DMM When the control unit is turned on, the unique ID number of the DMM installed in it is displayed.
Secretary State Election Commission Rakesh Singh has informed that the EVM (Control Unit, Ballot Unit and DMM) used by the Commission for the election of local bodies, is produced by Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).
It is a Public Sector Undertaking of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
EVMs are commissioned to prepare EVMs for election. In this, the DMM is installed and sealed in the prescribed manner in the designated candidate section of the control unit in the presence of the contesting candidates or their agents.
The Unique ID number of the DMM installed in the Control Unit during commissioning can be viewed by the candidate or his agent present there and the Unique ID number can also be noted down. Its tally can be done in the pre-poll mock poll, polling, counting of votes and DMM sealing.
At the time of voting, the data of the voting which is stored in the control unit, is also recorded simultaneously is stored in the DMM installed in it. After counting of votes, the DMM is removed from the control unit and sealed and kept securely in the treasury. Thus the control unit is free for the next round of elections.
The sealed DMM is kept for 6 months. After this, if the legal case is not pending, the process is finalized. With a view to complete transparency, fairness and credibility, the DMM once used is nor used again for voting by the Commission.

The guidelines published by the Commission regarding the preparation of EVMs for elections have been made publicly available on the Commission’s website www.mplocalelection.gov.in.
