Monday, 31 October 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

In a tragic incident in Lakhimpur Kheri district, five girls who went to get mud to paint the house were buried under mud on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports from Lakhimpur Kheri, 12-year-old Poonam and 13-year-old Shivani of Dhakia village under Bhira police station, along with their three friends, had gone to collect mud from the bank of Sharda river flowing nearby on Sunday afternoon.

When they were digging mud, it caved in and all five were buried and two of them died as the river water gushed into the cavity.

Reports said that some villagers present there immediately raised an alarm following which the local residents rushed to rescue the girls.

They somehow removed the mud and took out all the five but by then, two of the girls already died. The deceased were identified as Shivani and Poonam.

The local police registered a case and sent both the bodies for autopsy.
