According to the Uttarakhand police, this time around four crore devotees are expected to reach Haridwar in the Kanwad Yatra. Apart from this, an anti-encroachment drive will also be started in the city from Thursday.
The preparations of the administration are in full swing for the upcoming Kanwad Mela. A new traffic plan has been implemented in the city from Wednesday to get rid of the jam in the markets adjacent to Har Ki Paidi. At the same time, before the start of the Kanwad Mela, the police and administration are to undertake an anti-encroachment drive in the markets to prevent public inconvenience and traffic jams. The superintendent of police (traffic) Himanshu Verma and city magistrate Avadhesh Singh today visited and inspected Har Ki Paidi and nearby market. They said that encroachments should be removed from the area. Verma said that a new traffic plan has been implemented to get rid of the problem of traffic jam in Haridwar. The traffic plan will be strictly followed. As a result of this traffic plan, the auto stand on the Bhimgoda barrier has been shifted to Chamgadar Tapu. The auto rickshaw drivers will not pick up passengers from the new site. The zero zone up to Post Office tri-junction has now been extended to Shivmurti tri-junction.This plan is expected to not only streamline the traffic but also ensure the convenience of the pedestrians.
