The Forum of senior citizens fighting for resumption of railway concessions today held a silent dharna at Gandhi Seva Sadan under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi as part of their signature campaign to press for their demand.
Led by former BIADA chairman Bijay Jha, senior citizens from different walks of life signed a petition that would be handed over to the Rail minister in the first month of next month.
Jha said , our demand is not only for senior citizens but for sports persons and other categories of beneficiaries who now are denied such concessions.
Enhancing the age limit to 70 is of no benefit for them, said Jha, claiming that by that age the majority of the senior citizens are not in position to travel alone .
Convenor of the forum Anil Pandey demanded withdrawal of such concessions from former MPs and MLAs and ministers as they get hefty pensions compared to common pensioners.
The forum is all set to travel to New Delhi with the signature petition for handing it to the Rail minister on a given date.
