A gun-battle took place between CRPF and Maoists in a dense forest of Bokaro's insurgency-hit Gomia block near Jageshwar Bihar, here on Wednesday , SP Bokaro Chandan Jha said.
A squad of 26th battalion of CRPF was patrolling near Dakasadam village within limits of Jageshar Bihar police station area, when naxalites hiding in the forest opened indiscriminate fire on them, said the SP.
The exchange of fire continued for around half an hour, when, on growing police pressure, the guerrillas fled into the core forests, he said. No harm was reported to either end in the skirmish, he said.
Some naxal-related materials were reported to be recovered after the encounter but the details will be known once the patrol will reach back to its camp, the SP added.
The firefight took place between security forces and cadres of the CPI (Maoist) in Gomia block of Bokaro district, police said on Wednesday.
No injuries were reported in the encounter that occurred near Dakasaram village and nearby forest area in Jageshwar Bihar police station area on Wednesday from about 6:30 am to about 7 :30 am, a senior officer said.
Acting on a tip-off about the movement of CPI (Maoist) squad, a team of CRPF launched a search operation, senior police officials said.
The Maoists opened fire on the police team upon spotting them, and the security personnel retaliated, leading to a gunfight between them, he said.
However, the Maoists made a hasty retreat from the spot, leaving behind some daily-use items, the officer said.
According to senior police officials, police had received intelligence inputs two days back about the presence of a Maoist camp in the Jhumra area of the Gomia block.
A team of police personnel, along with CRPF launched the anti-Naxal operation. They started conducting a search operation on Wednesday morning in the Lugupahari forest.
More than 10 rounds of bullets were exchanged in the encounter between the cops and the Maoists, said sources
