With a view to check the occurrence of various crimes in trains such as robbery, theft, drugging of passengers, smuggling of gold and illicit liquor, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, of DDU rail division under ECR, Ashish Kumar Mishra is taking various steps, including carrying out awareness programmes, stepping up vigil in trains, particularly during night hours.
Mishra called upon the passengers to co-operate with railway administration, to eliminate crimes in trains, by not wearing or carrying valuable ornaments during train journeys, and avoid travelling in doorways/windows during night journeys.
As a part of these activities, Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force (RPF), DDU Division Ashish Kumar Mishra instructed all officers of Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) to escort trains vulnerable to such crimes. The company will be working under the control of Inspector in-Charge of the station.
He also stated that the passengers can contact the patrolling party or any RPF/RPSF/GRP personnel available in the trains for any security related assistance. They can also call the toll-free Railway Security Helpline No.139 in case of any emergency such as thefts/crimes in trains and also on noticing any suspected persons in trains, round the clock, so that help will reach them instantly, he added.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, going far beyond the call of their duty, saved the lives of a record number of people in every month within limits of Sr divisional security Commissioner of DDU alone besides rescuing hundreds of minor children and women from the clutches of human traffickers with in the ECR.While RPF of Gaya cop, showed exemplary courage in saving the life of a man from killing herself before a running train in Manpur railway station recently.
On the basis of the information received by the Senior Divisional Security Officer, Gaya RPF had recovered 6 kg of gold on January 4, which was worth Rs. 6 crore. Apart from this, on January 16, the RPF police once again had succeeded in recovering 1.5 kg of gold, whereas on January 13 a woman was also arrested along with 61 tortoises.
The Senior Divisional Security Commissioner has congratulated all the officers of the RPF who were recently awarded by the General Manager for their outstanding work in the safety of passengers and railway property as well as illegal gold smuggling their posting places. Railway sources said that of the 23 million passengers who travel in trains across the railway network everyday, about 4.6 million are women passengers. Kumar has directed the RPF personnel to coordinate with the State Railway Police and create a database of criminals involved in crimes against women and to come up with a short and long term security strategy to ensure safety of women passengers on railway premises.
