The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has issued an advisory to the city residents and its consumers to remove online booster pumps from the water supply lines from Wednesday. According to NDMC, the advisory has been issued to the New Delhi area residents and consumers to immediately remove their online booster pumps from the water supply lines.
The civic body advisory stated that consumer may install or continue the usage of booster pumps for lifting water from their surface tanks or underground reservoir to overhead tanks if required.
NDMC also said that the installation of online booster pumps directly on water supply pipeline is illegal and is not permissible for direct filling of underground tanks or overhead tanks. “The installation of booster pumps on water supply pipeline is the main cause of contamination, causing difficulty in maintaining uniform pressure and affecting the distribution network of water supply pipelines,” said the senior NDMC official.
“It also causes disturbance in water management of NDMC area and affects the proper delivery of water supply to each and every consumer. It also increases the electricity consumption & additional load on total electricity supply”, added the senior NDMC officials.
NDMC has also informed the residents and consumers that if any online booster pumps are found on the water supply lines, action shall be initiated against the defaulter which may result in permanent disconnection of their water connections besides taking other legal actions against the defaulter.
The NDMC area has over 19,000 water connections out of which 15,978are domestic connections while 3,157 connections are non-domestic.
