The Padmacharan Nayak Avinandan Samiti on Saturday organised a meeting here to mark the 97th birthday of Odisha Nishanibaran Abhiyan president and former MLA Padmacharan Nayak.
At the outset, Samiti convenor Dillip Dashsharma spoke about the various facets of Nayak's life and ideals.
Nayak in his response underlined the need for complete prohibition of liquor and other intoxicants as they ruin human life and society.
"I wonder if this is the country of Mahatma Gandhi and if Odisha is the State of Madhubabu, where massive spread of liquor is a major obstacle of development," he said.
Among others, former Minister Panchanan Kanungo, Sailaja Rabi, Kulamani Dash, Bani Das, Aparna Nayak, Malaya Tripathy and Prahallad Sinha spoke.
