Night temperature likely to be moderate on New Year

Saturday, 31 December 2022 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Cold weather conditions are not going to spoil New Year celebrations as night temperatures would remain at moderate levels and shivering cold conditions are less likely to occur in the state.

Chattarpur, Tikamgarh and Nivari districts would witness hollow to moderate foggy conditions while Mandsaur, Neemuch, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur Kalan, Gwalior and Datia districts are likely to witness moderate to dense foggy conditions according to the warning issued by Met.

Due to the cold wind coming from the northern areas of the country, the cold conditions have become intense in Bhopal during the night. Due to the drop in temperature, the mercury reached below 10 degrees. This is the third time this has happened in the season. The night temperature was 9.4 degrees. Earlier on November 27 and December 8, the night temperature was below 10 degrees.

The day temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees on Thursday. Despite the sunshine, the heat is not much, due to the arrival of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of an increase in the temperature for the next 2 days. At the same time, snowfall on the mountains can have an effect after 72 hours.

The mercury reached below 10 degrees only 3 times, but could not come down below 8 degrees even once. On December 8, the lowest temperature of the season was recorded at 8.6 degrees. This happened for the third time in 17 years when there was so little cold in December.

In 2006 and 2013 also the weather conditions were the same in December. All the Western Disturbances that came this time were not very strong. Because of this the snowfall on the mountains also decreased. The effect of this was that the icy wind that keeps us cool reached very little.
