Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, on Sunday, attacked the Central government over the Pegasus espionage case, alleging that it was an attack on personal freedom and democracy.
"New revelations are being made in this very serious matter and the silence of the Centre is raising questions," Mayawati tweeted on Sunday while expressing her concern over the new disclosure regarding the Pegasus espionage case.
Meanwhile, the BSP on Sunday also announced eight more candidates for the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, replacing two names from Unnao district.
In the fourth phase, 59 constituencies in nine districts will go to the polls on February 23. Eight candidates from Pilibhit, Sitapur, Hardoi and Unnao districts have been declared in the list released by the BSP on Sunday.
The party has given tickets to Mushtaq Ahmed from Pilibhit, Mohan Swaroop Verma from Barkheda seat of Pilibhit, and Ashok Kumar Raja from Puranpur (SC) seat of Pilibhit.
The BSP has fielded Ashish Pratap Singh from Sevata and Pushpendra Kumar from Sidhauli (SC) seat of Sitapur, an official spokesman disclosed. The BSP has fielded Shobhit Pathak from Hardoi, Sevak Lal Rawat from Mohan (SC), and Brajkishore Verma from Bhagwantnagar seat in Unnao.
On Friday, the Mayawati-led party had announced 53 candidates for the fourth phase.
It announced the candidature of Sevak Lal Rawat from the Mohan (SC) and Brijkishore Verma from Bhagwantnagar seat in Unnao on Sunday, replacing Vinay Choudhary and Prem Singh Chandel respectively.
The BSP has now declared candidates on all 59 seats going to polls in the fourth phase.
The seven-phase elections in Uttar Pradesh will begin on February 10 with voting for 58 seats in 11 districts in the western parts of the state. Polling for the final phase will be held on March 7 and the counting of votes will be taken up on March 10.
