The Cuttack Rural SP has transferred the IIC of Mahanga police station Nihar Ranjan Mohanty a day after his wife, an Excise Superintendent, was intercepted by Vigilance officials with unaccounted cash of over Rs 6 lakh.
“Inspector Nihar Ranjan Mohanty of Mahanga PS is transferred and posted to district police headquarters, Cuttack for administrative convenience until further order,” the Rural SP said in an order on Sunday.
In the meantime, Sub-Inspector Tapan Kumar Nayak of the Bhadreswar outpost would remain in charge of the Mahanga police station till the posting of a regular IIC, the order stated.
Mohanty was interrogated by the Vigilance police hours after arrest of his wife .
Mohanty’s wife Nina Buera was nabbed by the anti-corruption agency’s officials while she was on her way to Bhubaneswar in a private vehicle with the unaccounted money.
Soon after the incident, Vigilance officials initiated simultaneous searches at multiple locations in connection with the interception including the couple’s residence at Mahanga.
Notably, Mohanty had come to limelight in the murder case of former Mahanga Block Chairman and BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate in January 2021.
He also was pulled up by the Salepur JMFC Court for failing to appear before it despite order and repeatedly buying time for filing an investigation report in connection with the murder case.
