Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has said that the laxity shown by the state government in enforcing Covid guidelines during the recent Kanwad Yatra could prove dangerous for the state and it could be reason behind the recent spurt in Covid-19 in Uttarakhand. Singh told The Pioneer that the state government has claimed that crores of pilgrims had visited the state during the Kanwad Yatra. He said that the Covid-19 regulations were not followed anywhere in the Yatra and no one was seen wearing masks. He said that it is not surprising that the number of cases of Covid-19 is again increasing in the state. He said that the people of Uttarakhand have already paid a huge price for such laxity during Kumbh last year when the second wave of the disease hit the state. The senior leader of the Congress party said that there was a major scam in testing of samples during Kumbh.
Singh said that there was no testing facility during the Kanwad Yatra this year. The PCC president also took the state government to task for showing an apathetic attitude towards controlling dengue. He said that the vector borne disease has arrived in the state but the government machinery to control the spread of the disease is nowhere to be seen.
