Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday announced the setting up of India’s first Skill India International Centre at SDI Bhubaneswar and inaugurated the National Academy for Skill Teachers and Assessors and the World Skill Academy in a function held at SDI near Jatni.
The international Centre, which aims to enhance overseas opportunities for the skilled workforce, has come up in collaboration between the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar and the NSDC International (NSDCI).
An MoU was also exchanged between NSDC CEO and COO Ved Mani Tiwari and SDI Bhubaneswar CEO Sanjay Srivastav in the presence of Pradhan, Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) Chairman Subroto Bagchi and SDI Bhubaneswar Chairman IOCL Director (HR) Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra.
Pradhan said bridging the gap between overseas employers and skilled Indian youths, the Skill India International Centre is a pivotal step towards accelerating international workforce mobility from Odisha.
“There are about 75 lakh youths within the age group of 15 to 25 years in Odisha who need skilling and exposure to talent development. Of them, almost 50% are students. If they are properly trained they would make a significant contribution to the State’s growth,” Pradhan said.
