As part of a crackdown on illegal mining in Chhattisgarh, 10 vehicles transporting illegal sand were seized on Saturday at Baloda Bazar and 14 at Kondagaon districts.
Baloda Bazar district mining officer M Chandrashekar said a total of 10 vehicles, three Hyva tipper trucks and seven tractors were seized from Bhatgaon, Kasdol and Baloda Bazar areas.
He said the action was initiated under the Chhattisgarh Minor Mineral Rules 2015 and Section 21 to 23 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act 1957. He said a fine of Rs 1.89 lakh will be imposed on the vehicle owners.
Kondagaon Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gautam Chand Patil said a joint operation of the Revenue and Police departments was conducted against illegal mining and transportation of sand.
A total of 14 tractors were seized which includes 3 tractors in Masora, Baniyagaon (7), Kopabeda (2) and Bamhani (2). The operation will continue and the fines will be imposed, he added.
