Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday announced development works worth Rs 575 crore for Sirsa district. Addressing a gathering at Odhan village in Sirsa, Khattar said, "While considering the people of the state as a family, we have worked with the spirit of 'Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek'."
On the occasion, the Chief Minister made several announcements for Sirsa, excluding the municipal committees of Rania and Ellenabad and the municipal council of Mandi Dabwali in view of the upcoming civic body elections.
Khattar said that in a bid to channelize the energy of the youth by saving them from drug misuse and further encouraging them to play sports, arrangement of opening gyms and for playing various sports would be made in the villages of Sirsa district at a cost of Rs 5 to 10 lakh.
While making a big announcement for the farmers residing in the villages located on the banks of the Ottu Lake, the Chief Minister granted permission to lift the soil of this lake for a month. Farmers can lift 6 or 10 tonnes of soil in trolleys to use in their fields. The arrangement for lifting the soil in the trolleys will be done by the government. The farmer will have to pay Rs 100 per tonne for this. For one month, no permission or license will be required for lifting the soil, announced Sh. Manohar Lal.
The Chief Minister said that the work on Sherawali Distributary has started. Water will reach the tail from June 5. This will benefit 20 to 25 nearby villages.
Khattar also announced health projects worth more than Rs.13.05 crore for the Sirsa. Besides this, he also announced that as many as 77 roads will be constructed by the Marketing Board in Sirsa at a cost of Rs.88 crore. He also announced to fulfill the demands raised by 12 to 13 schools.
The Chief Minister announced Rs 34 crore for the water drainage system of Sirsa, Rs 2 crore for the sports stadium at Mamber Khera and Rs. 226 crore for development works in rural areas. He also announced the construction of ROB or RUB at two rail crossings in the Sirsa district.
The Chief Minister said that eliminating Drug abuse is my utmost priority. To curb this social evil, more and more de-addiction centers will be opened in the Sirsa district. Besides this, awareness campaigns would also be launched by the Police and Narcotics Bureau and by forming committees at the village level. Also, strict action will be taken against drug peddlers, he added.
He said that corruption had been going on for a long time. No one dared to stop this but since we came to power no one involved in corrupt practices is being spared and the strictest action is being taken against the corrupt.
Khattar further said that taking strict cognizance against corruption, as many as 800 accused involved in the paper leak scam have been put behind the bars and the search for 300 is still on. The deserving youth are getting jobs on merit basis ending the age-old ‘Parchi Kharchi’ culture. He said that now through the Gram Darshan and Nagar Darshan Portal, anyone can raise their problems related to their locality while sitting at home only. The problem would certainly be resolved by the concerned department.
The Chief Minister said that an announcement has been made to open medical colleges in every district of the state. The land has also been identified in Sirsa.
Khattar said that continuous improvement is being done in the field of education. The state government has distributed tablets free of cost to 5 lakh students of classes X, XI and XII by spending Rs 650 crore. Haryana is the first state in the country to do so.
Punjab Power minister inaugurates transformer at Rajpura
Chandigarh: Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh on Sunday inaugurated 500 MVA Inter-connecting Transformer (ICT) at 400 kV S/S Rajpura in village Chandua Khurd thereby increasing the Load catering capacity of the state in the upcoming Paddy season. The additional 500 MVA ICT at 400 kV has been installed at a cost of Rs 31 Crore, and it has taken one year to complete the erection of Inter-Connecting Transformer and its allied 400 kV & 220 kV Bays, the Minister shared on the occasion. Prominent amongst those present during the inauguration included CMD PSCPL Baldev Singh Sran and Director Technical PSTCL Yogesh Tandon.
Haryana Chief Minister inaugurates blood donation camp at Odhan ITI
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattr on Sunday inaugurated a blood donation camp at Government Industrial Training Institute Odhan in Sirsa. He also interacted with the donors and appreciated them for donating blood. Khattar said that blood donation is a very noble act and a healthy person should actively participate in charitable work like donating blood. The needy get a new lease of life from the blood donated by the good samaritans. This blood donation camp was organized by All ITI Contract Instructors Association Haryana, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and District Sirsa in collaboration with Shiv Shakti Blood Bank. About 50 units of blood were collected in this donation camp.
SMS alert facility for vaccination of children aged 0-5 in Punjab
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched an automated SMS alert facility for sending scheduled reminder messages to parents of children aged 0 to 5 years for immunization on mobile phones. Mann said scheduled messages with details of vaccination due and nearest vaccination centre shall be automatically sent to registered mobile numbers of parents. This facility will prove helpful in improving Punjab's vaccination status, an official release quoted the chief minister as saying. An official spokesperson said this automated SMS alerts facility will be bilingual (Punjabi and English). The objective of the facility is to sensitize and spread awareness among all the parents for timely vaccinations of their children, besides monitoring and tracking the entire lifespan of the vaccination schedule of children (covering 31 vaccinations). He informed that the initiative is being developed by the Department of Governance Reforms under the aegis of the Punjab government.

Punjabi writer Sultana Begum dead at 72
Patiala: Renowned Punjabi writer Sultana Begum has died at a private hospital in Mohali district after a brief illness. She was 72. Her last rites would be performed on Tuesday. Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Punjab Lok Virasat Academy chairman Gurbahajan Singh Gill expressed grief over her demise. Born into a Muslim family in 1949 in the royal city of Patiala, Sultana Begum was brought up in a Hindu family. She was married to a Sikh. Her parents had shifted to Pakistan after partition, but in 1948, her mother returned to Patiala following a marital discord with her father. In Patiala, Sultana Begum's mother was adopted by a man named Chiranji Lal, who raised her. She did her MA in Punjabi and Urdu, and PhD in Indian theatre. She also had a diploma in Persian language. She worked with the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali and her book 'Shugufe' gained popularity. The first woman to write a literary satire in Punjabi language, Sultana Begum was awarded the 'Professor Joga Singh' award and the 'Waris di Dhi' award by the Punjabi University.
City circle Amritsar imposes fine 14.45 lacs to 35 consumers for theft and violations
Amritsar: The distribution teams of the city circle of PSPCL Amritsar city have checked the premises of 933 consumers of different categories and 17 consumers were charged with theft of electricity and a fine of rupees 13.90 lacs imposed on them. Besides this, 18 consumers were found for various other violations and they were imposed a fine of rupees 55000. The spokesperson of PSPCL appealed to all its consumers to help authorities in controlling the menace of theft of electricity.
